Brescia University will graduate their first cohort for their Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program. This program is one of the four graduate programs the University offers as part of their commitment to life-long learning. These students will join the over 200 students that will walk across the stage and graduate on May 13th at 10 AM at the RiverPark Center.
The Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program started accepting students in August 2021. This program is exclusively online making it incredibly unique among other Speech-Language Pathology programs across the country. Graduates had to complete a minimum of 60 credit hours, including a practicum of 375 clock hours with 25 observation hours.
Dr. Julie Hess, Program Director for the Graduate Speech-Language Pathology program said, “We had an amazing group of students and faculty from all over the country. The students know each other well and I hope they will continue on not only as colleagues, but great friends. I feel so honored that they chose and trusted Brescia and me for their graduate school journey.” She also mentioned that each student will be present at the graduation ceremony, traveling from all over the country.
The University received candidacy from Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association in 2021. This gives the newest graduates the opportunity for a clinical fellow, a mentoring period, after graduation. If the clinical fellow is completed successfully, the graduates can then earn the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s Certificate of Competence, which is considered the ‘gold standard’ of the speech-language pathology licensing in the United States.
