Theology Certificate Program

100% Online Theology Certificate Program*

The 100% Online Theology Certificate Program at Brescia University is grounded in the Roman Catholic faith tradition and reflects the Second Vatican Council’s commitments to ecumenism, religious liberty, a deeper study of the wellsprings of the Catholic tradition, and a reaffirmation of the vocation of all to serve the Church.  The program supports the Council’s emphasis on the vital role of lay ecclesial ministry, while also supporting those seeking to become permanent deacons (please check with your local diocese to determine the deacon application process).

The Theology Certificate Program is a 15-credit hour (5 course) online program that can be completed in less than two academic years. The purpose of the program is to prepare students who wish to serve the Church in catechetical and/or lay ministerial roles in the Church, to provide continuing education for students who may already be serving the Church, to cultivate the personal, spiritual, theological, pastoral, and professional qualities needed for effective Christian ministry, to assist students in discerning their vocation to love, and to provide a foundational knowledge base for students who wish to later pursue a Theology/Pastoral Studies degree.  Students who complete the program will have the opportunity to apply the credit hours earned toward a bachelor’s degree in Theology, with a Pastoral Studies emphasis.  Candidates for the Permanent Diaconate may also earn the Theology Certificate as part of their larger program of studies.
