From Cap & Gown to Career: Amber Epley ’19

As a high school student, I never could’ve imagined the path that I am now on, but Brescia helped me with that. Brescia quickly became my home away from home after high school. The small class sizes and small campus made it easy to make new friends and made sure I never got lost. For a small-town shy girl this was essential in my college search, and as soon as I toured the campus I knew.

Coming into Brescia I was super reserved and didn’t know anyone. That quickly changed thanks to Orientation, during which I made some of my best friends. All of the student leaders I met helped me adjust to college life away from family and made me feel welcome and included. My orientation experience is what pushed me to want to do the same for other students. At the end of the year when applications went out for all the different Student Leader positions, I quickly got mine together and sent it in. Being a student leader really helped put me on the path I am on today. I got to meet so many new people and try all sorts of new things. We planned events for all the students so that they could feel welcome, make new friends, and just have fun as a Brescia student. I use all the leadership skills I learned to make sure patient testing is getting done properly and that my coworkers and I are working together towards the best outcomes for patient care.

The professors truly care about their students and want each one of them to succeed. If it wasn’t for my professors Dr. Girouard, Dr. Marvin, and Dr. Adler, I probably wouldn’t have chosen the major I ended up with. They all encouraged me and pushed me to do my best and were there when I needed help with anything. Dr. Adler was my academic advisor and with his help I was able to get all of my required courses without being really behind when I decided to change my major to Medical Technology. Knowing they all cared and had my back kept me going when things got tough.

Brescia helped me break out of my shell and grow into who I always was underneath. I would recommend Brescia University to any High school student that is looking for a place they can grow as a person, a place to make lifelong friendships, a place where the teachers truly care about you and your future, and a place to call home away from home. Even now that I have graduated and begun my next journey I know Brescia is somewhere I can go back to.
