From Cap & Gown to Career: Hannah Cartner ’22

My time at Brescia University was truly unforgettable and I am so thankful for all the ways it helped prepare me for my future! Brescia has an amazing group of faculty and staff who truly care about everyone who attends Brescia. I felt like I had a personal connection with all my professors and a lot of other staff members who worked in student affairs. I was never hesitant to come to anyone with questions or ask for help because I knew they all wanted to help me succeed in whatever it is I decided to do. During my sophomore year at Brescia, I decided I wanted to apply for the Disney College Program, but I had no idea where to start. I set up a meeting with Morgan Russelburg, Director of Career Services at the time, and she helped and supported me through the whole process from applying to actually moving down to Florida!

The support and kindness of everyone at Brescia has definitely helped to lead me to where I am today. By senior year I became an orientation leader, peer educator, and a member of the student activities programming board, all things I never would have dreamed of doing my freshman year. Being a part of these leadership roles helped me to practice leadership skills I knew I would need after graduation. It also led me to making some great friends.

While at Brescia I was also able to participate in two study abroad programs. My freshman year I traveled to London and Paris, a lifelong dream of mine, and my senior year I traveled all throughout Scotland and Ireland. I was able to learn and experience new cultures while also getting college credit for it! Brescia also has scholarships for students to help cover some of the finances of traveling abroad, which I was so grateful for it. Brescia was able to help make my dreams of traveling overseas a reality!

After graduating, I decided to return to the Disney College Program. While I am currently working at Disney, I am also pursuing my MBA through Brescia. All of my professors through my undergrad studies definitely helped to prepare me for getting my MBA. With Brescia being a liberal arts college, I got the opportunity to take classes outside of my business field which I am so thankful for. My accounting and HR classes were essential in preparing me for my MBA and my future career, but classes like Race, Ethnicity, and Immigration taught by Dr. Griffin and American Literature taught by Dr. Bosse helped to sharpen my critical thinking skills and I was able to apply concepts I learned in these classes to my business courses.

I would recommend Brescia University to anyone who is looking for a college where they can have a close relationship with not only their peers but also the faculty and staff. Between Brescia and the city of Owensboro there is plenty to do outside of classes and homework. Go Bearcats!
