Katrina Bullington, 1989 graduate Brescia University with a bachelor’s degree in Art Education, was selected to present at the National Art Education Association’s (NAEA) spring conference. Bullington is the Visual Arts teacher at Ohio County Middle School.
Bullington will present “Turn your art class into a Studio Setting and not go crazy doing it!” at the 2014 NAEA National Convention in San Diego, CA, March 29-31. According to Bullington, “participants will be introduced to the concept of how to turn their art room into a student-driven, student-choice studio setting, creating a project-based learning art room.” Bullington said when she implemented this in her 8th grade class, it provided them with “an appreciation of the arts and knowledge to complete projects at highly effective levels.” Students in this type of setting must complete ten of thirteen projects during the 9-week period. The students create the grading rubric. “Students show leadership and responsibility by keeping track of their projects through a checklist and working together.”
Bullington’s presentation was selected out of more than two thousand entries. This presentation is considered a Best Practice Lecture and gives Bullington an opportunity to share her teaching style with thousands.
She also received the Kentucky Middle School Art Teacher of the Year award by the Kentucky Art Education Association.
