Homecoming week started with the Men’s Soccer team stacking cups, flipping pancakes, and wrapping themselves in crepe paper on their way to taking top prize in Minute To Win It activities on Monday in the dining hall. For the second year in a row, Teagan Wyndham wowed the audience with her costumes and choreography as she won the Brescia Lip Sync Battle on Wednesday. On Thursday, Mike Ascencio, representing the baseball team and SGA, SHATTERED records by downing his stack of pancakes in less than a minute at the homecoming pancake eating contest. SGA started the weekend’s activities on Friday afternoon with an intramural volleyball tournament. Against the backdrop of decorations being set up and the band tuning up for the evening’s events, The Rats bested the competition to win the tournament.
As the sun set on Friday, the Quad transformed into a party atmosphere. Under the glow of string lights from the fountain and with country band Yellow Banks providing the soundtrack, Brescia teams, departments, and organizations set up tents and hosted a variety of activities for guests to enjoy.
SGA served fresh popcorn; SAPB played pin the bowtie on the Bearcat; Residence Life tended a duck pond with sweet prizes, and Delight shared their mission while hosting the photo booth. The Social Work and Business departments had fun games to play, while the Education department served delicious caramel apple treats. The tennis, softball, and golf teams challenged guests to themed games. The Psychology department had brain-themed crafts to enjoy, and the Physician’s Assistant School hosted an on-going game of Operation. The Library team handed out free books, and the English area hosted a poetry activity. And to keep our guests warm on a chilly October night, the Baseball team served hot cocoa and warm apple cider. It was a special evening on the Quad, celebrating the Brescia community and the perfect kickoff to the weekend.
Saturday morning started with Barney’s Pancake Breakfast. Alumni, students, faculty, and staff all enjoyed delicious pancakes, crispy bacon, and warm coffee served and sponsored by the Brescia Alumni Association. It was the perfect lead-in to the greatest tradition of Brescia Homecoming: Chariot Races. The Brescia Band opened with the national anthem and the Brescia fight song, setting the stage for the races. Student emcee Stephen Schmidt called the races and entertained the crowd as eight teams faced off against each other for prizes and bragging rights – including teams from Baseball, Men’s Volleyball, Residence Life, and even a Baby Bearcats team comprised of children of alumni. Ultimately, it was students from the International Club who took home top prize. Before the final race, 2025 Homecoming Court was introduced, with Diego Laguna and Kaitlyn Orange being crowned King and Queen.

The afternoon featured a Women’s Basketball scrimmage, with the Bearcats taking on John A. Logan College. It was a special day in The Den, as members from the very first Women’s Basketball team from 1985 were recognized. Before tip-off, the current team formed a high-five line, and the 1985 team exited the locker room to applause as they were introduced. The Bearcats started their season off strong with a decisive victory.
The Centennial Gala capped off the weekend with a celebration dinner at Green River Distillery. Nearly two hundred guests enjoyed a gourmet dinner and specialty cocktails with a program honoring the rich history and bright future of Brescia that featured addresses from presenting sponsor Owensboro Health, SGA President JoJo Gesser, and President Madison Silvert. The evening concluded with music from the Entice Band and plenty of dancing.
2025 Homecoming was truly a Once in a Century Celebration – with every area of campus participating in a wide variety of activities and events. So THANK YOU. Thank you for celebrating Brescia University with us, and we hope to see you at 2026 Homecoming October 23rd – 25th.
