Phi Alpha, Chi Psi Chapter, Inducts 7 Social Work Students By: Dr. Laura Gibson

Phi Alpha is delighted to announce the induction of 7 new members on February 1, 2024! Phi Alpha, the honor society for social workers, was first established in 1962. Brescia University’s Chi Psi Chapter has been active since 2016. The purpose of the Chapter is to provide a closer bond among students of social work and promote humanitarian goals and ideals. Maritza Gonzalez, Brescia MSW graduate and previous president of Phi Alpha echoed this, saying, “The opportunity to connect with fellow students and professional social workers provided a fertile ground for growth and exploration within our field. I feel incredibly blessed to have been given this platform, where every interaction was an invaluable lesson and every moment, a step towards a brighter future in social work.”  Phi Alpha fosters high standards of education for social work, and social workers who show excellence in scholarship and achievement are invited to join. Members qualify, in part, by being ranked in the top 35% of students in their program. The Chi Psi Chapter also places a high value on service, and the group, which meets virtually each month, participates annually in Random Acts of Kindness Week, which is held this year from February 11th-17th. Past acts of service have also included donating a washing machine to a local homeless shelter and offering scholarships to both BSW and MSW online students. The group also participates in professional development activities that include invited speakers and conference attendance. The Chi Psi Chapter advisors are Dr. Rob Moskos and Dr. Laura Gibson.
