Brescia University Master of Speech-Language Pathology Receives SACSCOC Accreditation

Brescia University’s Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology received accreditation from the Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges, or SACSCOC, on May 7th, 2021.  This accreditation will be implemented on August 2nd, 2021 in conjunction with first classes of the program being available. The program has also received candidacy from the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

“Having the approval from our accrediting body, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), in addition to ASHA’s Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA), only further strengthens our resolve surrounding the need for this program and the high quality curriculum involved in ensuring our students become skilled and passionate practitioners in the field of speech and hearing,” stated Brescia University President, Fr. Larry Hostetter. “By offering a masters degree to complement the path of our already well-established bachelors in Speech Language Pathology, Brescia University signals to our community that we are responsive to their needs.  Additionally because it is an online program, we are also able to extend our graduates’ impact in other communities. That is the mission of Brescia University “to create a more compassionate human community through service.”

This program will be starting in fall 2021 and will be completely online. The program will be a minimum of 60-credit hours, and includes a practicum of 375 clock hours with 25 observation hours.

Assistant Professor of Speech Pathology, Dr. Julie Hess, said of the accreditation, “I am excited for the students and the community. Speech therapists provide important services across the lifespan. It is wonderful that students near and far will have the opportunity to study speech-language pathology at Brescia University.”

Brescia University offers an undergraduate degree in Communication Science and Disorders, which allows students the possibility to enter into the new masters program.
