Brescia’s Jones Named River States Conference Attacker of the Week

Brescia University athlete and former Owensboro Catholic student, Natalie Jones, has been named the River States Conference Volleyball Attacker of the Week for August 29th. Jones is a freshman outside hitter for the Bearcats who played all six rotations during the Bearcats’ matches that took place at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Kentucky this past weekend.

Natalie small“Natalie is a great all-around player, I knew she was going to do great things here at Brescia,” stated Head Volleyball Coach, Jerry Forbes. “I just didn’t realize it would happen in the first weekend of her Freshman season. She is also the type of player that this one accolade is not enough for her, I look for her to help take this program to the next level.”

Jones led the team with 59 kills and 33 digs in the tournament and an average of nearly 20 kills per match. Her outstanding moment came against Campbellsville University with 29 kills and 12 digs, as well as 17 kills against Union University.

“Volleyball is a team sport and no one person can win or lose a match,” stated Jones. “So there is no way I would have received this award without my team. I feel like the team did well and we have come a long way, and we still have a lot of work to do if we are to win a conference championship.”

The Bearcats are back in action on September 3rd, taking on St. Mary of the Woods in Terre Haute, Indiana in a tri-match for two matches.
