Brescia Receives $15,000 Grant from PNC

Brescia University has been awarded a $15,000 grant from PNC Bank that will be used to purchase technology for the School of Education. Candidates will use the technology in conjunction with their studies in order to learn new, innovative ways to prepare for their career in teaching and address twenty-first century skills.

pnc“As with many professions, 21st Century skills have become a key component in classrooms,” stated Dr. Ashley Holland, Associate Professor of Education and the Chair of the School of Education. “With access to various technology tools and applications, our candidates will be able to incorporate technology in rigorous and relevant educational situations while they are completing their initial certification degree.  Our goal is to provide support for those 21st Century skills while candidates are here at Brescia University.  In return our graduates will continue to increase their impacts on education in our community.”

Brescia’s School of Education will purchase iPads and iPods with the funds that can be used in the higher educational setting to build lessons that candidates will implement in the field. Faculty members will provide hands-on learning for students in the program, as well as community partners’ students, to prepare candidates to teach the technology-literate learners that are currently in the P-12 setting. The overall goal is to increase the understanding and use of relevant mobile technology in the P-12 classroom setting.
