BU Golfer is KIAC Conference Tournament Medalist

Brescia University senior Will McKenzie took home first place in the 2015 KIAC Men’s Conference Golf Tournament this past weekend at Liberty Country Club in Liberty County, Indiana. McKenzie shot 74, 73, 72 in the three day tournament, winning the title by four strokes.

IMG_9817McKenzie’s win qualifies him for the NAIA National Championship, which will take place in Daytona Beach, Florida May 19-22 and also earns him the title of 2015 KIAC Player of the Year.

“I’ve had a great experience in my 4 years here. I wouldn’t be able to be in this position without the help and support of my family, friends, coaches, and teammates. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to compete at Nationals and to represent Brescia University,” said McKenzie.

The Brescia University Men’s golf team placed second overall in the tournament, following Point Park University who took the top spot.

McKenzie, a graduate of Logan County High School in Russellville, Kentucky, has been All-Conference for the past two seasons. His award-winning golf career started in high school when he qualified for state while playing for the Cougars and was named to the Kentucky All-Academic first team in 2010.

He had a breakout year as a Brescia Bearcat in 2012-2013 as a sophomore, winning a tournament at My Old Kentucky Home golf course in Bardstown, Kentucky and received medalist honors in two other tournaments, earning him All-KIAC honors.

Since then, McKenzie has been named to the All-Tournament Team at the Berea Invitational in 2012 and the Brescia Invitational in 2013. He was a medalist at the Brescia Invitational in 2013 and Dual Match with Bethel (TN) in 2014.

McKenzie is heavily involved in activities on campus, including being The Voice of the Bearcats for all home basketball games, and many other sporting events.

He is currently studying Applied Mathematics with a minor in sports management. After graduation in December 2015, McKenzie hopes to be able to continue working in some type of sports vocation.

McKenzie is the son of Terry McKenzie and Candy Hardiman and has been a part of the Brescia Golf Team for four years.
