Celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. Day at Brescia University

Brescia University is partnering with the Owensboro Human Relations Commission to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, January 17, 2011. There will be no classes on campus, and Brescia offices will be closed during the program.

On Monday, the greater Owensboro community is invited to participate in the day’s activities including a march at 9:30 a.m. that begins at Owensboro High School and ends at Brescia. At 10:30 a.m., there will be a program in the Taylor Lecture Hall, which will include music by the Owensboro Senior High Choral Ensemble and a keynote address by Ms. Pam Smith-Wright, newly elected to the Owensboro City Commission and mayor pro-tem. Additionally, a representative from the St. Benedict’s homeless shelter will make an appeal for volunteers to help manage the service.

Following this program, the public is invited to partake in a simple lunch of bean soup and cornbread in the Dining Hall (Campus Center).

You may contact David Kelly, Owensboro Human Relations Commission, at 687-8671 or Sr. Pam Mueller, Brescia Campus Minister, at 686-4319 for more information.
