Brescia Social Work Students Make a Difference in the Community

Each year for the past 12 years Brescia University seniors majoring in Social Work take a trip to Saint Paul’s Mission in Crownpoint, New Mexico as part of their field practicum. The mission, which serves Navajo families and children, provides the housing for the students and while there, they work as interns in social service agencies.

Seven years ago the Brescia Social Work Department began a soup fundraiser to assist the Mission in purchasing items for a toy shop to benefit the Navajo families for Christmas. This year, nearly $2,000 was raised by accepting donations for the lunch, with additional donations continuing to arrive in the mail. This fundraising effort has netted more than $10,000 for the Mission since its inception.

This fundraiser is just one of the many service projects that Brescia Social Work students willingly complete to help others, including those outside Owensboro.
