PA 621: Medical History and Physical Examination I

This course serves as an introduction to essential skills in patient history taking, documentation, and effective communication. Students will learn key elements such as medical vocabulary, professional conduct, and patient interviewing techniques, focusing on gathering and recording comprehensive medical histories. As part of the curriculum, students will engage in hands-on training with diagnostic equipment, honing their abilities to perform both complete and focused physical examinations. The course will also include essential OSHA and HIPAA training to ensure students understand safety and confidentiality in clinical practice. Additionally, students will practice history taking and conducting physical examinations with a particular focus on the integumentary system. Through laboratory sessions, students will apply their knowledge of human body structure and function, emphasizing the appropriate use of diagnostic tools and techniques necessary for thorough physical examinations. As a longitudinal course, it runs concurrently with the system courses through the didactic phase of the program.
