Brescia University will host a series of events to help educate the local community on voting in November. These events are free and open to the public.
The events will kick off on Monday, October 17th with a candidate forum for individuals running for the Kentucky House of Representative seats in the districts in and surrounding Daviess County. The event will be in town-hall forum format and seven of the ten candidates from Districts 7, 11, 12, 13 and 14 have confirmed their participation:
Joy Gray (District 7)
David Watkins (District 11)
Robby Mills (District 11)
Jim Townsend (District 12)
Jim Glenn (District 13)
DJ Johnson (District 13)
Tommy Thompson (District 14)
Following this event, on Thursday, October 20th, candidates vying for the Daviess County Family Court Judicial position that will be elected for the district that includes the local community will participate in a candidate forum. The Daviess County Bar Association is cosponsoring this event.
Candidates that will be present are Clifton Boswell, Susan Montalvo-Gesser, Julie Hawes-Gordon, and Angela Thompson. Cheryl Cureton, President of the Daviess County Bar Association, and Nickole Durbin, Brescia University Political Science major, will be the moderators for the forum.
Both forums will be held at 7 pm on their respective nights and will take place in Taylor Lecture Hall located in the Science Building on Brescia University’s campus. Parking is available on surrounding streets and in the lot located off St. Ann.
In conjunction with the family court candidate forum, Assistant Professor of Theology, Stuart Squires, will be presenting a public lecture entitled “How Should Catholics Vote?,” that will review the 2015 document from the U.S. bishops titled “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship” that provides principles all Catholics should consider when entering the voting booth.
This event will take place at 7 pm in Science Building room 226.
