Brescia University is pleased to bring back former adjunct professor, Dr. Sharon Hudson, faculty member at the University of Mobile, who will hold a piano recital in the Taylor Lecture Hall (Science Bldg.) on Thursday, January 24th at 7:00 p.m. The program includes pieces by Bach, Handel, Puccini, and Chopin.
Accompanying Dr. Hudson will be Dr. Stacey Uthe, Assistant Professor of Voice at the University of Evansville.
This recital is free and open to the public.
Dr. Sharon Hudson
She has a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics from the University of Chicago and an MM and DMA in piano performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She resides in Mobile with her husband, Henry, and her two sons, William (10) and Johnny Ray (3).
Her teachers have included Jerry Alan Bush (University of South Alabama), William Heiles (UIUC), Dmitry Paperno (DePaul University), and Arthur Greene (University of Michigan).
Dr. Stacey Uthe
Soprano Stacey Uthehas performed with several reputable regional opera companies and symphony orchestra organizations across the US, as well as abroad, where she engaged audiences at the Vlaamsa Opera in Gent, Belgium, as well as in Austria, Germany, Norway, Sweden and Denmark.
Some of her interpretations include the roles of “Hanna” (The Merry Widow), “Mimì” (La bohème), “Alice Ford” (Falstaff), “Contessa” (Le nozze di Figaro), “Fiordiligi” (Così fan tutte), “Donna Elvira” (Don Giovanni), “Magda” (La rondine), and “Helena” (A Midsummer Night’s Dream). Upcoming engagements this fall include an appearance with the Evansville Bach Singers in Evansville, and Violetta in Heartland Bel Canto’s La traviata in concert in Kansas City. In April, Stacey will return to sing Mozart’s Requiem with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra. Recent engagements have included “Erste Dame” in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte with Sounds of South Dakota, Inc., Mahler’s 2nd Symphony with Bozeman Symphony Orchestra, the Rutter Requiem with the First Lutheran Church Concert Series, “Berenice” in Rossini’s opera, L’occasione fa il ladro, with Gotham Bel Canto, Inc., Holiday Concert Gala with the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra of Columbus, Ohio, Christmas on the Prairie with members of the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, and the Fauré Requiem with the South Dakota Augustana Concert Series. Other recent engagements include Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, “Franzi” (Ein Walzertraum) with Lyric Opera San Diego and a European debut as “Viktoria” in Viktoria und Ihr Hussar at the Vlaamse Opera in Gent, Belgium. Stacey also recently appeared as “Erste Dame” in Die Zauberflöte with The Lyric Opera of Kansas City, “Musetta” in Wichita Grand Opera’s production of La bohème, Mahler’s Second Symphony with The South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, and Mimì in Townsend Opera’s production of La bohème. Stacey was also featured in performances of The Merry Widow with Lyric Opera San Diego (“Hanna Glavari”) and Lyric Opera of Kansas City (“Clo-Clo”). Other career highlights include “Donna Elvira” in Wichita Grand Opera’s production of Don Giovanni, and “Belinda” (Dido and Aeneas) with Union Avenue Opera.
In concert, Stacey recently appeared with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra in Christmas at the Cathedral, which was broadcast nationally on CBS. In oratorio, Stacey has been featured in performances of Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, and Schubert’s Mass in G. Stacey has performed Spanish Zarzuela in the Napa Valley, where she sang “Emilia” in La Chulapona with The Jarvis Zarzuela Festival. Subsequent appearances at Jarvis include performances of El Barberillo de Lavapiés.
Stacey was a Regional finalist in The Metropolitan Opera Auditions, Meister Singer 4th Place Winner and Audience Favorite Award Winner, a Charles Lynam Vocal Competition finalist, a National Opera Association Vocal Competition finalist, a Missouri Federation of Music Clubs First Prize Winner, and a Kansas City NATS First Prize Professional Category Winner.
Stacey earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Augustana College; a Master of Music in Vocal Performance, a Master of Music in Choral Conducting and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance, all from the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Currently, Stacey serves as an Assistant Professor of Voice at the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana.
