Brescia a Distribution Site for World Book Night

Brescia University’s Fr. Leonard Alvey Library is proud to be the host site for the distribution of several hundred books as part of World Book Night on April 23, 2012.

Five volunteers from Brescia, plus eight others from the greater Owensboro area, will distribute 20 copies of a book they selected out of a list of 30.

From Kodiak, Alaska, to Key West, Florida, in 5,000 towns and cities across America, volunteers will give away half a million free books on one day as part of World Book Night U.S. Volunteer book lovers will help promote reading by going into their communities and handing out free copies of a book they enjoy to new or light readers, reaching them especially in underserved places – and even some fun spots.

World Book Night launched in the UK and Ireland last year and now in the United States this year. The date of April 23 was chosen because it is UNESCO’s World Book Day, chosen due to the anniversary of Cervantes’ death, as well as Shakespeare’s birth and death.
