Tickets are available now for the annual Empty Bowls fundraiser which is held to bring awareness of hunger in the Owensboro community. Empty Bowls 2012 will take place at a new location this year: Third Baptist Church, 527 Allen Street, on Thursday, April 26 starting at 6 pm.
This local event is part of a national one to raise funds for those in need of food. Brescia University’s Art Department supplies the clay, glaze, and location for local potters, who donate their time, to make ceramic bowls. The bowls are then used as soup bowls at the fundraiser. The cost per person is $15 which includes dinner and the unique, handmade bowl. Soups this year include Tomato Basil, Black Bean, Chicken Noodle, Lentil, and Tuscan Vegetable.
New this year will be a silent auction. Local artists are creating one-of-a-kind pieces that will be available exclusively that evening.
All proceeds from Empty Bowls will fund a local soup kitchen, who will be announced during the dinner. Last year $3,260 was given to St. Benedict Joseph Homeless Shelter.
Only 300 tickets are available and may be purchased in advance by cash or check Monday through Friday from 8-noon and 1-4 pm at the Information Desk at Brescia University’s Campus Center (717 Frederica Street, Owensboro). You may also purchase tickets at the door.

Mission Statement – “Feeding Hungry People one Bowl at a Time”
Empty Bowls is a grassroots movement to help end hunger. Area potters volunteer to make ceramic bowls, while others donate everything for a dinner of soup and fellowship. One hundred percent of the proceeds stay in this community and go to local food pantries. Our goals are to raise money to help organizations fight hunger, to raise awareness about the issues of hunger and food security, and to help bring about an attitude that will not allow hunger to exist.
