University Receives NAIA Five Star Award

Athletic LogoBrescia University has been recognized by the National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) as a Five Star institution as part of the 2010-2011 NAIA Champions of Character Scorecard.

Brescia University is one of 220 college and universities to receive the Champions of Character Five Star Award.

The NAIA created the Scorecard to measure goals and monitor progress towards advancing character-driven intercollegiate athletics. According to the NAIA, “The initiative supports performance-driven athletics while defining expectations and standards that drive successful teams and athletics departments.”

Pat Mrozowski, Brescia Athletic Director said he is very pleased Brescia has been designated as a Five Star Institution. “It demonstrates that our athletes achieve high standards in the classroom and in the community as well as in competition.”

Measurements were based on a demonstrated commitment to Champions of Character and earned points in each of the following categories: character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition and character promotion. Institutions earned points based on exceptional student-athlete grade point averages and by obtaining zero ejections during competition throughout the course of the academic year.

The Scorecard process is based on the NAIA’s flagship program Champions of Character, which emphasizes the five core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership.
