“Blessed are the Peacemakers”

Father John Dear, SJ, is a courageous peace activist who has dedicated his life to nonviolence. His faith and vigor in delighting in a nonviolent God ignites the flame of peace within all who hear him speak. Throughout his life he has actively attempted to live the beatitudes and bases his practice of nonviolence on “Blessed are the Peacemakers.”

Brescia University, through its Contemporary Woman Program, is delighted to invite the entire community to hear the stories of Fr. John Dear on March 22 at 7 pm. His scholarly understanding of nonviolent peacemakers such as Martin Luther King, Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, Dorothy Day, and Thomas Merton will inspire and encourage you to take a leap of faith and trust in the God of nonviolence.

His emphatic call to action against war, violence, and the culture that embraces such cruelty far surpasses the lines that often separate us. His attempt to bring all humanity together for the glory of God and the betterment of all creation will inspire you to make a difference in your own community. His words will leave you with the question, “What can I do?” rather than “Should I do something?”

Father John is a Jesuit priest, peace activist, organizer, lecturer, retreat leader, and author/editor of twenty books on peace and nonviolence. He has also been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

We invite you to take advantage of the engaging and enlightening words that Fr. John will share on March 22 at 7 pm in Taylor Lecture Hall, Science Building, at Brescia University. Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door – $5 for students, or $10 general admission. Contact Sr. Rose Marita O’Bryan at 270-686-4275 or [email protected] for more information.
