Service to Others

Brescia Serves!

Mission: Brescia University is a Catholic, liberal arts institution founded in the Ursuline tradition of personal and social transformation through education. Directed to academic and moral excellence in a student-centered environment, Brescia offers undergraduate and graduate programs that serve students who seek success through rewarding careers and service to others.

Brescia Difference: Respect for the sacred; Devotion to Learning; Commitment to Growth in Virtue, and Servant Leadership

At the heart of who we are and what we do is serving others. From the selflessness of the foundress of the Company of St. Ursula, St. Angela Merici of Brescia, Italy in the 16th Century, to the courageous Ursulines of Louisville who journeyed to Daviess County on a flat boat in 1874 in order to establish a school, to the faith-filled Ursulines of Mount St. Joseph Kentucky moving their Junior College for Women to open Brescia College in downtown Owensboro to meet the co-educational needs of returning Veterans in 1950–we are grounded in a legacy of Servant Leadership.

Give Back! Volunteer and Community Service Opportunities:

Want to give back while you are in school? Or maybe you want to join a volunteer organization following graduation? Community service and working with local or national volunteer organizations are a great way to gain experience, while interacting with all different people, and serving others.

Reflect that in reality you have a greater need to serve [the poor] than they have of your service. - Angela Merici

First Counsel (Humble Service)

….Rather, regard yourselves as ministers and servants, reflecting that you have more need to serve them than they have to be served by you, or governed, And that God could very well provide for them by other means even better than you, But in his mercy he has wanted to use you as his means for your greater good, so that you could merit more from his infinite goodness, and that he would have reason for rewarding you….. St. Angela Merici
