Four Bearcats Earn Player of the Week Honors

Four Brescia University athletes were recognized for the week of September 5-11th for their outstanding play in multiple sports.

shelby-smallShelby Buschkoetter led the Bearcats offense to pick up River States Conference Volleyball Setter of the Week for Sept. 5-11.

Brescia (5-5) went 4-1 on the week with Buschkoetter picking up 143 assists and 43 digs in the five matches. The 5-5 freshman from Owensboro, Ky., averaged 8.94 assists and 2.69 assists per set on the week.

Brescia picked up victories over Fisk (Tenn.), Salem International (W.Va.), Bluefield (Va.) and Glenville State (W.Va.) to improve to .500 overall.

Buschkoetter posted double-doubles of 21 assists and 11 digs versus Ursuline and 37 assists and 11 digs versus Salem International. She had a week-high 39 assists versus Bluefield.

natalie-smallNatalie Jones had a big week of kills and was named River States Conference Volleyball Attacker of the Week.

A freshman from Owensboro, Ky., Jones tallied 84 kills in five matches as Brescia went 4-1 on the week. She had more than 20 kills in three matches, including 22 kills and 17 digs in a win over Salem International. Jones also recorded 20 kills and 19 digs in a win over Glenville State and 21 kills in a win over Bluefield (Va.). She hit .311 for the week with 5.25 kills and 4.06 digs per set.

Jones currently ranks 11th in the NAIA in kills per set and previously received this honor following the first performance of her collegiate career.

rhiannon-smallRhiannon Ungerer earned River States Conference Volleyball Defender of the Week for her performance.

The junior outside hitter from Milwaukee, Wis., posted double-digit digs in four of the five matches on the week for Brescia. The Bearcats went 4-1 during the week with Ungerer contributing 70 totals digs.

Ungerer’s 19 digs came in a victory over Bluefield (Va.). She had 16 digs in a win over Salem International and another 15 digs in a loss to Ursuline.


max-wolfMax Wolf, Brescia University Men’s Soccer Goalkeeper, earned River States Conference Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors for Sept. 5-11 for his role in an overtime win over Pikeville (Ky.).

The 2-1 victory came on Sept. 9 to improve Brescia to 3-0 on the season. A freshman from Germany, Wolf made four saves, including one in overtime, to preserve the win. Brescia’s next game is Sept. 13 at home versus Boyce College.
