Lydia Pion is currently a full-time Speech Language Pathologist at the Vanderbilt Voice Center where she works with both adults and pediatrics in a variety of settings including voice evaluation and treatment, laryngectomy care and management, and videonasoendoscopy and VPI evaluation for the Vanderbilt Children’s Cleft and Craniofacial Program. She is passionate about outreach and community education and has revived the Vanderbilt Voice Center Outreach Program which provides the opportunity for graduate SLP programs and graduate vocal pedagogy classes to tour the voice center, receive didactic information related to voice evaluation and intervention, and have hands on experience. She recently served as an SLP on a medical mission trip to Kenya under the direction of Dr. James Netterville, to provide free services to underserved communities and training of local medical professionals to maintain continuity of care. She has presented posters at the Fall Voice Conference and the Voice Foundation Annual Symposium, and presented at the Vanderbilt Professional Voice Conference and the Vanderbilt Stroboscopy Course. She is currently working on a research study with Dr. Emily Kimball entitled “Investigating the Effects of THC and CBD Use on Vocal Function and Physiology” which is in the data collection phase. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from UNC-Greensboro, a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Rice University, and a Master of Arts in Speech Language Pathology from Miami University of Ohio. This spring she is teaching SLP 560 – Voice Science and Disorders, and in the summer and fall she will be teaching CSD 415 – Speech and Hearing Science.
