Through the generous grant support of the Lilly Endowment, Brescia University will begin a youth theological institute for high school students, which began in August 2016 called, “Living and Leading with Love.” Twenty students will participate in a year-long program that will include theological reflections, online learning, service opportunities, retreats, prayer experiences, and a five-day, intensive on-ground experience at Brescia University during the summer to conclude the program.
Identify, Knowledge and Action – Goals of the Program
The program will provide Catholic high school students with a combination of retreat and online learning experiences, theological reflection, worship, prayer, service, and leadership opportunities for the duration of one academic year.
1) encounter Jesus’ call to love; (Who am I?)
2) explore the meaning of that love; and (What does this all mean?)
3) identify practical ways of putting that love into action. (What should I do?)
Participants will be formed by the sacred scriptures and by the classic and contemporary texts of the Catholic intellectual tradition to integrate the vision of love expressed by Jesus Christ and his mandate: “This is my commandment: love one another as I love you” (John 15:12).
Service and leadership are key components of the program.
