Empty Bowls 2011 – Feeding Hungry People one Bowl at a Time

Applications are now being accepted for the annual Empty Bowls fundraiser, which raises awareness of hunger in the Owensboro community. Empty Bowls 2011 will take place at Settle Memorial ROC, across from Settle Memorial Church, on Thursday, April 28 starting at 6 pm.

This local event is part of a larger one across the country as a way to raise funds for those in need of food. Brescia University’s Art Department will supply the location for local potters to make ceramic bowls. The bowls are then used as soup bowls at the fundraiser. The cost per person is $15 which includes dinner and the handmade bowl.

All money raised will go to fund local soup kitchen(s). The recipient(s) will be announced during the dinner. Last year $3,085 was split between Third Baptist Church and Woodlawn United Methodist Church.

Applications can be picked up now by stopping by First Presbyterian Church (1328 Griffith Avenue, Owensboro), emailing [email protected], or visiting the Empty Bowls of Owensboro, Kentucky Facebook page. The deadline to return those applications for consideration is March 1.

Mission Statement – “Feeding Hungry People one Bowl at a Time”

Empty Bowls is a grassroots movement to help end hunger. Area potters volunteer to make ceramic bowls, while others donate everything for a dinner of soup and fellowship. One hundred percent of the proceeds stay in this community and go to local food pantries. Our goals are to raise money to help organizations fight hunger, to raise awareness about the issues of hunger and food security, and to help bring about an attitude that will not allow hunger to exist.
