Brescia University Practicing Healthy at Home Until April 17th

Brescia University is adhering to Governor Andy Beshear’s Healthy at Home initiative by requiring all nonessential staff members who are able to work from home to begin doing so by March 26, 2020 and continue through April 17, 2020.  All essential staff will remain present as needed to meet the needs of the remaining students in the residence halls, and all staff that are unable to work from home or on campus due to having been impacted by COVID-19 have been provided a temporary extension to the number of paid leave days.  The health and safety of Brescia students, faculty, and staff while minimizing the disruption to the student’s educational experience remain the top priorities of the University.

Brescia University is following all policies set in place by Governor Andy Beshear. The changes on the University’s campus include: moving all students to online for the rest of the semester, rescheduling commencement until May 30th, closing campus to visitors, changing dining services to carry-out only, and restricting areas that were previously open to the community as only open to Brescia employees (e.g. walking track and library).

Fr. Larry Hostetter, president of Brescia University, stated in an email to faculty, staff, and students, “I want to assure everyone that, while limited, Brescia remains open; those on campus and those who are working from home will still be a critical part of making sure that we continue to provide the necessary services to our students so that they might successfully complete the semester. Residence life and food services will remain fully functional. As you know, we are not unique in this; the same protocol is being followed by nearly every college and university in the country. I recognize that it isn’t easy; there are many challenges, but we made a commitment to do our best to be as least disruptive as we could to our students’ academic careers.”

The University has temporarily altered its leave policy with the best interest of the employees at heart, taking into consideration underlying health issues, vulnerable populations, school and day care closings, and those who may be impacted in other ways. Brescia University is also reaching out to members of the health community and first responders who are on the front lines to offer and have, in collaboration with Fresh Ideas, Brescia University’s dining service provided food and supplies to Firehouse #4 for distribution to all firehouses in Owensboro.
