Brescia University Presents: Catholicism and Contraception: St. Paul VI and the Fiftieth Anniversary of Humanae Vitae

Brescia University will host an upcoming public lecture titled Catholicism and Contraception: St. Paul VI and the Fiftieth Anniversary of Humanae Vitae.  This lecture will be presented by Dr. Stuart Squires, Ph.D. on Monday, October 15th at 7:00 PM in Taylor Lecture Hall and is free and open to the public.

This fall, Pope Paul VI will be canonized a saint.  This year is also the fiftieth anniversary of his letter Humanae Vitae.  The letter, which aimed to reaffirm the constant teaching of the Catholic Church on married love, responsible parenthood, and the continued rejection of unnatural forms of birth control, is the most controversial document in Catholicism in the past 150 years.  This public lecture will present a biography of Paul VI, and will discuss many of the key points of Humanae Vitae.

Dr. Stuart Squires, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Theology.  He is a historical theologian who focuses on the fourth and fifth centuries. He has an upcoming book titled The Pelagian Controversy: An Introduction to the Enemies of Grace and the Conspiracy of Lost Souls, which will be published in 2019.
