Information for Students

Brescia Information Technology Department

(IT Dept/) is in charge of networking on campus, and provides services such as internet access, telephone service, and e-mail access.

Emergency Contact System (One-Call)

Here at Brescia University we use the One-Call system to notify students in case of emergencies. Typical uses might be for weather cancellations, class cancellations, or other emergencies that affect the Brescia campus or it resources.

When you sign up for your Brescia e-mail, on the form you can put down up to 5 different phone #'s for emergency notification. This can be your home, cell, parents home, parents cell or any combination. By putting these numbers on the form, you consent to having them listed in the emergency database. If you no longer attend Brescia University, it is your responsibility to notify the IT department to take your name and phone #'s out of the emergency database.

Computer Requirements for Students Living on Campus

Students living on campus who wish to have internet access in their room must have a computer with a 10/100 ethernet network card (NIC). You will also need an ethernet patch cable, which is provided by the Information Technology Department at no charge.

Wireless Internet Access Points

The Brescia University campus is now equipped for wireless internet access. Students who wish to take advantage of this service will need a laptop that has a wireless ethernet card. Most newer laptops have this feature built in. If your laptop did not come with a wireless ethernet card and you wish to use the wireless service on campus you will need a wireless 10/100 802.11a/b/g card. Currently Brescia University does not support the 802.11N wireless, but we aim to start adding 802.11N access points in the future. If you need help connecting to the wireless network submit a helpdesk request.

Services Available to Students From the IT Department

The Brescia University IT department provides internet and email access for all students staying on campus. All students receive, at no charge, an email account.

  2. While getting your Brescia ID card made, fill out the Brescia e-mail request form
  3. Once you get your Brescia ID card made and fill out the form, it takes about 48 hours for your e-mail to become active.

If you attend online only:

Limited technical support for student computers is also available, but we cannot provide any software or hardware for students. This includes but is not limited to software applications (such as Microsoft Office or Windows operating systems) or replacement parts for computers (such as monitors, cd-roms, floppy drives etc.)
