English as a Second Language

Painting with Burmese childBrescia University’s School of Education is pleased to begin offering an English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement for all education students and current teaching professionals beginning Fall 2013.

The endorsement requires five courses:

  • Edu 401: Language and Culture (3 credits with 10 hours of field experience)
  • Edu 402: Acquisition and the Skill Set for Teaching ESL Students (3 credits with 10 hours of field experience)*
  • Eng 306: Linguistics
  • Edu 403: Methods and Materials Teaching P-12 ESL Students (3 credits with 10 hours of field experience)
  • Edu 404: ESL Practicum (1 credit with 30 hours of clinical practice)

*The first class of this endorsement is Edu 402 and it will begin Fall 2013.

Students who wish to receive this endorsement must pass the Praxis II English to Speakers of Other Languages’ test following completion of the program.
