Bearcat Men and Women Sweep Conference Player of Week Awards
SOCCER PLAYERS OF THE WEEK FOR SEPTEMBER 17TH TO SEPTEMBER 23RD.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (September 24th, 2007) – The Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is proud to announce Player of the Week honors for September 17th-September 23rd in Men’s and Women’s Soccer.
MEN’S SOCCER:
Offensive Player of the Week: Andrew Varns, Brescia University
Goal leads Bearcats over Southern Polytechnic
Andrew Varns was named Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for September 17th-September 23rd. Varns is a 6-1 Senior Forward from Sheffield, England. Varns also had a goal and assist in the win over Campbellsville. The goals were scored in Brescia’s first two wins this year.
Defensive Player of the Week: Angel Abundez, Brescia University
Nine saves in two games.
Angel Abundez was named Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for September 17th-September 23rd. Abundez is a 6-1 Sophomore Goalie from Arlington, Virginia. Abundez stopped six of the eight shots on goal in the 1-0 win over Southern Polytechnic. The match was the first shutout of the year for Abundez.
WOMEN’S SOCCER:
Offensive Player of the Week: Lauren Taylor, Brescia University
Two assists in conference win over Berea.
Lauren Taylor was named Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for September 17th-September 23rd. Taylor is a 5-1 Senior Forward from Owensboro, Kentucky (Owensboro HS). Taylor also had two goals in the 5-0 win over Kentucky Christian. Taylor leads the Bearcats in goals and assists.
Defensive Player of the Week: Valerie Kamuf, Brescia University
Leader at center back for the Bearcats.
Valerie Kamuf was named Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for September 17th-September 23rd. Kamuf is a 5-8 Sophmore Defender from Owensboro, Kentucky (Owensboro Catholic HS). Kamuf played in both wins this week including two of her eight shots this season in the Berea game.
