Weekend Round-Up (Nov 6-8)

Brescia University had multiple teams in action over the weekend. Many of those teams were competing for a Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship Title.

On Friday men’s soccer was the first team that was in action. The team took on Asbury College and lost 3-1. This concluded the team’s season.

The women’s soccer team was also in action. It might have taken two overtimes, but the Lady Bearcats came out victoriously against Cincinnati Christian University 2-1.

The men’s and women’s cross country teams were in action on Friday as well. The women’s team placed 4th. Ashley Miller won the race with a time of 20:02 and qualified for the national race. The next closest female runner came in second place with a time of 21:30. BU’s Julie Reynolds placed 7th with a time of 22:20 and also qualified for the national race. BU’s Caitlin Owen was 13th with a time of 23:09.

The men’s cross country team placed 2nd. Matt Lowe was the KIAC Champion. He qualified for nationals in Vancouver, Washington on November, 21. Chris Peterson placed 32nd in 28:12, Kyle Clark placed 33rd in 28:17, and Shea thrash was 38th in a time of 28:28.

On Saturday the women’s soccer team played in the conference tournament final vs. Asbury College. The team came up short 5-0. This ended the team’s season.

On Sunday, the Lady Bearcats basketball team was in exhibition action against NCAA D-1 Western Kentucky University. The team lost 105-44. Clarissa Houston had 18 points and Brittany Bird chipped in 10 points. Erika Murphy had 4 points and 5 rebounds. The team (2-0) will be in action on Friday vs. Martin Methodist at 2:00PM.

Weekend Round-Up (October 30-31)

Over the weekend five Brescia University teams were in action.

The weekend started with the Women's Tennis team beating Midway College 8-1 on Friday morning in the KIAC Tournament action. The team turned around on Saturday to play IU Southeast. Brescia fell short losing 5-3, which concluded their season. The team finished the season with a 14-4 (7-3 KIAC) record. This was an amazing year of improvement for the team from last season's 3-12 record.

The weekend continued in St Louis, MO where the Lady Bearcats Basketball team played Harris-Stowe State University.

The Lady Bearcats got down 3-2 in the first minute of the game, only to play well over the next 10 minutes to be up by seven points. Harris-Stowe pushed back to cut the lead to two points 32-30 at the half.

Brescia came out the second half and held a four to six point lead until the 12 minute mark, when Harris-Stowe took the lead. Harris-Stowe pushed the lead to eight points with 10 minutes to go in the game. Brescia came out of a time out and went on a 10-2 run to tie the game with eight minutes to go. The Lady Cats pushed the lead to six point.

Harris-Stowe made one last push cutting the lead to one point with 45 seconds left in the game. Brittany Bird made a jumper with 19 seconds left to push the lead to three points. Harris-Stowe scrambled for a shot and with three seconds left Clarissa Houston blocked a three pointer to tie the game. The loose ball was recovered by Ty Sanders to seal the win for the Lady Bearcats.
Brittany Bird had 21 points, seven assists and five rebounds in the 72-69 win at Harris-Stowe. Bird also made 10-of-12 free throws. Clarissa Houston scored 14 points 8 rebounds, Kendra McIntyre had 11 points and Ty Sanders had 9 points. Amelia Keller had 9 rebounds to lead the way for the Bearcats.

Gwendelyn Ellis led Harris-Stowe with 22 points.

The Lady Bearcats play next at home on Wednesday November 4, 2009 at 7:00 PM.

The Volleyball team was in action at the University of the Cumberlands. The team fell 3-0 and will next play at home versus Bethel University on Thursday November 5, 2009 at 7:00 PM.

The Men's and Women's Soccer teams were in action at Oakland City University on Saturday. Both teams fell short in their efforts. The men lost 4-0, while the women lost 2-0.
Both teams will be in action on November 6, 2009 for the KIAC Conference Tournament.

Weekend Round-Up (October 23-25)

Men's and Women's Cross Country Results
The men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Southern Classic. The men were 14th place.

Women's Soccer
The women's soccer team lost to Union College 4-2 on Saturday.

Volleyball
The volleyball team lost to Mid-Continent University on Saturday 3-2 in the first of two games. Then, the team turned around to win against St Catharine 3-1.

Women's Tennis Results
The Brescia University women's tennis team finished the regular season with an 8-1 victory over Midway College. Brescia concluded their regular season with a 13-3 record, and will play in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament next Friday at Asbury College. The winner of the conference tournament will advance to the NAIA Nationals next spring.

Weekend Round-Up (October 16-18)

Over the weekend six Brescia University athletic teams were in action. The weekend was started off by the women's tennis team beating Spring Hill College on Friday 5-4. On Saturday volleyball went to Cincinnati to play a tri-match with Cincinnati Christian and IU East. The team came up shirt in both matches 3-0, and 3-0. Women's soccer team played St Mary's of the Woods to a 1-1 tie, while the men's soccer team was beaten by Campbellsville Uinversity 6-0. The men's and women's cross-country teams competed in the University of Evansville Invitational finishing 11th place.

Ashley Miller ran a 20:00 race and placed 17th out of 113 runners
Caitlin Owen finished 98 out of 113.
Next week the girls head to Louisville for the Southeastern Classic

Matt Lowe lead the way for the men with a time of 27:09. This was good enough for 19th place.
Brescia was 11th of 14 teams (mostly NCAA D-1)

Women's Tennis
Brescia Nips Spring Hill College (AL) 5-4.

With the team score tied 4-4 and trailing 4-3 in the third set, Sophomore Candace Skaggs won the next three games in a thrilling come from behind victory to clinch the match. Brescia swept the top four singles spots after trailing 4-1. The Bearcats are now 12-3 on the year and host Midway College Friday.

KIAC Women's Tennis POW

Women’s Tennis Player of the Week: Mona Blauen, Brescia University

Mona Blauen was named Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for October 5th-October 11th. Blauen is a freshman from Cologne, Germany. She added six wins to her perfect record in conference (14-0 with singles and doubles). Blauen has only lost one singles and one doubles match all year.

Weekend Round-Up (October 9-11)

Men's Soccer
The BU men's soccer team fell to Mountain State University 3-1 on Friday night. The team played West Virginia Tech on Sunday and came up short 2-0.

Women's Soccer
The Brescia University women's soccer team beat Lambuth University 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. The team will be in action again on Wednesday versus St. Catharine.

Women's Tennis
The Brescia University women's tennis team won two of three KIAC matches over the weekend. Brescia beat Asbury College on Friday night 6-0 in a rain shortened match. The team turned around on Saturday morning and beat Berea College 7-2. Saturday's second match, however, was not as successful. Brescia fell to conference leading IU Southeast 6-3. Freshman Mona Blauen remains unbeaten in conference play. Brescia improves to 11-3 on the year and 5-2 KIAC play.

Miller Wins Runner of the Week

Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week: Ashley Miller, Brescia University

Ashley Miller was named Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for September 28th-October 4th. Miller is a sophomore from Owensboro, Kentucky. She ran 30th out of 298 runners in the Greater Louisville Classic. Her 19:47 time is her fastest this year at the 5K distance.
