Reviews of Wicked:
"The contrast between the young women, who wind up as reluctant roommates at sorcery school, is used to examine a society that values surface over substance, the illusion of doing good over the genuinely noble act. It goes without saying that you don't have to squint to find parallels with a certain contemporary Western nation in which artful presidential photo ops win more votes than legislative change." -New York Times review by Ben Brantley October 31, 2003
“It offers us the backstory to the witches of Oz — good and wicked — as well as filling us in on where the ruby slippers came from, how the Tin Man and Scarecrow wound up like they did, etc. But it's also a serious exploration of the nature of friendship, as well a cautionary fable about the danger of governments who rule by fear. All of this is also captured by Stephen Schwartz's tuneful score, which knows when to soar with inspiring pop anthems or when to make you smile with its musical and lyrical cleverness."--Richard Ouzounian, Toronto Star

Brescia Night at the Bats
"Baseball and Alumni Pride"
An unusually cool July night at Slugger Field in Louisville, KY provided the perfect setting for a great evening of baseball with Brescia Alumni. The Bats won, 5-4, a thrilling game, to the delight of all.
They came from Owensboro, Tell City, Waverly, and Louisville to take in a game at the picturesque park. Accountants, teachers, social workers, and retirees gathered at the ballpark. Some sported Brescia gear. Some brought family, others close friends. They spanned the decades. But they were all brought together by a shared experience of Brescia University.
A cheer went up as Brescia University was displayed on the oversized scoreboard in left field. Seeing Brescia in lights prompted other alumni at the game to seek out the group and share some stories and cheer the Bats to victory.
Fireworks following the game capped the night off in a magnificent way. Everyone went their own way, once again. For a few hours, though, they were a community, they were the Brescia Difference. But then again, they always were.
When I talk about that difference, I talk about the people of Brescia, especially our alumni. For people from such varied backgrounds and places in their lives to so thoroughly enjoy each other’s company is a testament to the Brescia spirit that each one of our alumni carries with them. You are always a part of Brescia, and Brescia is always a part of you. Even at a ballpark on a cool July eve.
